Hello my lovely music students! Sorry I have not posted in a while. I have been busy working with Ms. Dawson on building some drums for the graduating students. I hope you're having a fantastic spring. I can't wait to see you all again at school in the fall. Have a fantastic summer with your family!
Check out this cool website and see if you can create your own music!

Hello everyone! Last week, you did a sound scavenger hunt. This week I have another similar activity. You might have received this paper from your teachers. See if you can fill out this whole page of sounds that you hear around you. Click here for A Sound Hunt Next, I would like you to find five things around your house that make interesting sounds. For example: a pot and a wooden spoon, sweeping a broom, a tap that is running, a toy car. Did you know you can turn these objects into instruments? You can say ‘pots and pans, pots and pans’ while you are banging the pot! Here is your mission… 1)Find five objects around the house or in your backyard 2)Find one or two or three words you can say while making noise on your new instrument Here is a video of me showing you an example! Have fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g43dmvHcPao For this week's activities I'd like you to go on a Sound Scavenger Hunt. Click the link below for the assignment. If you don't have a printer, don't worry. Just sketch out your own paper. Take this on your walk. You can go for a walk anywhere. It could be in the woods or it could be around the city. If you are able to, please do two walks. On each walk, bring a new sheet of paper and pencil. Do one walk around the city and near roads. Do a second walk in the forest. Then compare the different sounds you hear in each location. Bring your parents and siblings along with you.
Dear Students,
How are you doing?! I hope you are enjoying the warm weather and playing a lot outside! This week I would like you to ask all your family members what their favourite song is. What is your favourite song? If you like, you can email me your answer! Next, listen to your favourite song and see if you can clap a steady beat along to the music! This can be hard. Ask your parents to help you! Sincerely, Ms. Williams Dorothy.williams@yesnet.yk.ca Madamedorothy.weebly.com Stay tuned for more info about our School Song Dance Choreography Competition
Activity Two Things You’ll Need Wax paper (eg. used cereal bag) Scissors Elastic band Paint (optional)
Dear Students,
Let’s make a kazoo for music class this week! The kazoo is a really neat musical instrument that you can make at home! There are a couple ways to make one at home. Activity One Things You’ll Need:
2)Fold the wax paper in half and place the folded seam over the exposed teeth of the comb, approximately in the center. There should be one layer of wax paper on each side of the comb, with the ends of the paper extending to the comb bottom. 3)Place a small piece of transparent tape at the bottom of the folded wax paper to secure it to the comb. This step is optional, but don't stretch the wax paper too tightly with tape, as it may affect its vibration. 4)Place dry lips against the wax paper and hum to produce sound. A little experimentation will different humming sounds may be necessary, such as "mmm" or "dooo" sounds.
